Saltaire Brewery strike gold at SIBA North Awards
Saltaire Brewery has started the year as it means to go on, with a fantastic set of awards at the regional Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) presentation evening held on Friday 15th January. The Scarisbrick hotel in Southport played host to the event, with representatives from 100 breweries from across the North of England vying for these prestigious awards.
Saltaire Brewery was awarded GOLD for its popular Cascade Pale Ale (4.8%) in the hard fought Premium Bitters Category and gained another GOLD for its very special Triple Chocoholic (4.8%) in the Speciality Beers category.
Winners from each category are then entered into the competition to choose the Champion Beer of the Festival and Saltaire Brewery won GOLD for their Cascade Pale Ale and SILVER for their Triple Chocoholic.
Tony Gartland, Owner and Head Brewer at Saltaire Brewery, who received the awards, said, “We are absolutely delighted to have won these awards voted on by panels of industry experts. To win Gold in both categories was fantastic, but to then be awarded Gold and Silver overall was a real bonus.”
He continued, “Both the Cascade Pale Ale and the Triple Chocoholic have been incredibly popular. We brew the Cascade Pale Ale as one of our core range in both cask and bottles. The Triple Chocoholic is brewed as a special, but we usually sell the whole brew in a week as it is in such high demand. We may also consider bottling it in the future.”
The brewery recently played host to a group of 30 from the York branch of CAMRA, who were there to present them with another award for their Triple Chocoholic which won ‘Beer of the Festival’ at the York CAMRA Beer Festival.
Tony Gartland, who was there to receive the award, said, “It really is a great way to start the year, and there is more to come. We will be hosting Worthing CAMRA in a couple of weeks, when they come to present us with their Silver award for our Blackberry Cascade.”
Saltaire Brewery’s Managing Director, Paul Simpson said, “Getting all these prestigious awards was really the icing on the cake of a fabulous 2009. We had record sales, with December being up a massive 75% year on year. Having invested in new machinery in order to expand and now with all the awards, we’re just going from strength to strength.”
